Olde English Column Detail

Old English  is easy to use as a freestanding column. After building the base to recommended specifications lay the stones as shown below. The Olde English stones laid in this pattern will make a 20”x20” column without cutting. Each course should overlap the vertical joints from the stones below (see typical second course below).

Pilaster in wall 12”x20’ (with hole for electric wire)

Olde English Wall lends itself to many projects.

There are times for aesthetics or strength a integral pilaster will be used in a freestanding or landscape retaining wall. The illustration below shows a typical layout without cutting any stones.  The pilaster layout will adapt itself to a integral column by continuing the layout to the other side of the wall See integral column detail below). Follow the directions for making a column  by covering the vertical joint below creating more strength for your wall.

Expanded Column  It is sometimes necessary to build a column larger than 20”x20”, in the picture below the contractor is building a 36”x36” Driveway Entrance Column that will be 60” Tall. The design is simple and allows a hole in the middle for a wire to power a light. Combinations of 12” long units and 8” end pieces make 36” on all sides.
